Storage groups are a collection of devices that are stored on the array, and an application, a server, or a collection of servers use them.
About this task
This procedure explains how to protect storage groups using SRDF.
Before you begin:
- Connectivity to the remote storage system must be available.
- All storage systems that are involved must be discoverable and manageable.
- The SRDF wizard supports the mandatory creation of a storage group and the optional creation of a device group. The storage group may contain nonconcurrent SRDF devices of any SRDF type, or may contain non-SRDF devices.
- The wizard performs the following validation check to determine if the selected storage group is SRDF protected: The volumes in the storage group must be all TDEVs, or all volumes in the storage group must be R1s and in the same SRDF group, or all volumes must be R2s and in the same SRDF group.
- The SRDF wizard supports the creation of SRDF protection for CKD storage groups.
- Set the default number of ports to use with SRDF. To set this number, see
Manage data protection preferences.
You can use this wizard even if the selected Storage Group is in the Migrating State.
To protect storage groups using SRDF:
Steps
-
Select the storage system.
-
Select
.
-
Select the storage group and click
Protect.
-
Select
Setup Remote Replication Using SRDF.
-
Click
Next.
-
Select the Remote Array ID. To update the list of remote systems, click

Select
Automatic to automatically select an SRDF group or
Manual to select an SRDF group from a list. Automatic SRDF group creation with WLP support is available in the protection wizard when using SRDF, SRDF/Metro or SRDF/MetroDR technology for protecting a storage group. The Automatic SRDF group option is selected by default. A new SRDF group is always created in automatic mode. An attempt to find or reuse an existing SRDF group is no longer made. The number of ports in the new SRDF group is based on the value in the settings dialog.
| NOTE: Global Mirror SRDF groups, Data Migration SRDF groups, and other SRDF groups are not available for use.
|
-
Optional: To not start pair mirroring, clear the
Establish SRDF Pairs option.
-
Do the following, depending on the storage operating environment (target system):
Optional: Change the
Remote Storage Group Name, and optionally select a
Remote Service Level. Changing the name also changes the target volume storage group name.
-
Click
Create Device Group check box and select the
Device Group Name that holds the target volumes.
-
Click
Next.
-
On the
Review SRDF Groups page, the selected SRDF group is displayed which its corresponding ports on both the source and target side (and Metro side if applicable) along with the Performance Impact chart showing the SRDF scores for both the source and target sides (and Metro side if applicable) and any warnings that are associated with the ports, for example, zoning, active paths, and redundancy.
-
Optional: On the
Review SRDF Groups page, modify the label name for each SRDF group pair.
-
Click
Next.
-
On the
Summary page, verify your selections. To change any of them, click
Back.
Some changes may require you to make extra changes to your configuration. If any zoning needs to be completed, the
Summary page displays an Action Required section, along with an option to save the Zoning Report. If zoning is required, only the
Add to Job List button is displayed.
